Data methodology
This page documents what data the website displays, which source supplies it, how it is converted, and how failures are handled. No API keys, private endpoints, or licence-contract details are exposed.
Method rules
The rules below apply across every public data observation, conversion, and unavailable state.
Only observations from official or licensed sources: World Bank monthly commodity data, RBI-displayed reference rates (attributed to FBIL), the official DPIIT WPI workbook, World Bank annual CPI inflation, licensed feeds when configured, and user-entered cost calculations. Krayan never displays invented or unlabelled secondary data.
Each dataset is labelled with its true frequency: licensed intraday (with the licensed delay shown), daily reference (marked 'previous working-day' when applicable), monthly (WPI and World Bank commodities), or annual (World Bank CPI inflation). Monthly averages are never described as live prices.
Original source units are preserved. When an approved FX reference is connected, the commodity conversion is: INR/kg = (US$/MT × USD-INR reference rate) ÷ 1000. This conversion excludes local premium, taxes, duties, logistics, conversion, processing, insurance, financing, and supplier margins. If no approved FX source is connected, no INR equivalent is shown.
When no verified observation exists, the website states that current verified data is unavailable and links to the official source. Zero is never displayed as a value, and failed fetches are never replaced with invented numbers.
Staleness is judged against each source's own publication schedule — monthly sources are not stale because they are not daily. Where a licence permits storing a last-verified value, it is shown with its original observation date and a stale warning; the timestamp is never re-stamped.
Provisional observations (such as WPI) are labelled provisional and replaced by final observations when the official source revises them. Base years are stored and never mixed across series without an official linking factor.
LME data requires a redistribution licence; without one, Krayan links to official LME pages instead of reproducing LME values. The public RBI table used here identifies FBIL as the benchmark source, and that attribution remains visible. Direct FBIL feed integration still requires separate usage approval.
Reference prices and indices provide context only. A supplier quotation reflects specification, quantity, location, commercial terms, and market timing — no index or reference price substitutes for a live RFQ.
WPI tracks wholesale price movement at a macro level. The CPI observation shown here is the World Bank annual inflation percentage for India, not a monthly CPI index. Neither is an industrial commodity spot price or proof of a specific supplier-price movement.
The cost breakup tool computes material subtotal, landed-cost totals, savings on the selected eligible base, and effective per-unit cost strictly from values the user enters or explicitly confirms from a connected source. User-entered and source-assisted values are recorded separately.
Source-assisted values (an FX reference, for example) are displayed with their source and timestamp and enter a calculation only after explicit user confirmation. GST and customs fields remain user-entered unless a maintained official rate integration exists.
